Euclid preparation. Measuring detailed galaxy morphologies for Euclid with Machine Learning

mwalmsley/zoobot 15 Feb 2024

We investigate the application of deep learning to predict the detailed morphologies of galaxies in Euclid using Zoobot a convolutional neural network pretrained with 450000 galaxies from the Galaxy Zoo project.

Predicting Coronal Mass Ejections Using Machine Learning Methods

mbobra/SHARPs 11 Mar 2016

We then use machine-learning algorithms to [1] determine which features distinguish these two populations, and [2] forecast whether an active region that produces an M- or X-class flare will also produce a CME.

Cautionary tales on heating-rate prescriptions in kilonovae

nikhil-sarin/redback 10 Apr 2024

Here, we introduce new semi-analytical models for kilonovae with better heating rate prescriptions valid for the full parameter space of kilonova velocities and electron fractions.

Improved Constraints on Cosmic Birefringence from the WMAP and Planck Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization Data

LilleJohs/Cosmic_Birefringence 27 May 2022

In this paper, we present new measurements of cosmic birefringence from a joint analysis of polarization data from two space missions, Planck and WMAP.

Stochastic Modelling of Star Formation Histories III. Constraints from Physically-Motivated Gaussian Processes

kartheikiyer/gp-sfh 11 Aug 2022

We use the connection between the PSD and auto-covariance function (ACF) for general stochastic processes to reformulate this model as an auto-covariance function, which we use to model variability in galaxy star formation histories (SFHs) using physically-motivated Gaussian Processes in log SFR space.

ripple: Differentiable and Hardware-Accelerated Waveforms for Gravitational Wave Data Analysis

tedwards2412/ripple 8 Feb 2023

Firstly, we demonstrate that complete waveforms which cover the inspiral, merger, and ringdown of binary black holes (i. e. IMRPhenomD) can be written in jax and demonstrate that the serial evaluation speed of the waveform (and its derivative) is similar to the lalsuite implementation in C. Moreover, jax allows for GPU-accelerated waveform calls which can be over an order of magnitude faster than serial evaluation on a CPU.

S 308 and other X-ray emitting bubbles around Wolf-Rayet stars

jeltef/pylatex 29 Nov 2023

We did not detect any of the 22 optical/IR emitting bubbles in X-rays, but using our best fit model, we estimated the 3$\sigma$ flux upper limits for each bubble.
