Common Envelope Wind Tunnel: The Effects of Binary Mass Ratio and Implications for the Accretion-Driven Growth of LIGO Binary Black Holes

1 code implementation29 Oct 2019 Soumi De, Morgan MacLeod, Rosa Wallace Everson, Andrea Antoni, Ilya Mandel, Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz

We demonstrate that the mass and spin accrued by these black holes per unit orbital tightening are directly related to the ratio of accretion to drag coefficients.

Posterior samples of the parameters of black hole mergers released to date in the second Advanced LIGO--Virgo observing run

1 code implementation22 Nov 2018 Soumi De, Collin D. Capano, Christopher M. Biwer, Alexander H. Nitz, Duncan A. Brown

This paper presents the first public data release of samples from the posterior probability density function for the three binary black hole mergers---GW170104, GW170608, and GW170814---detected during the second observing run of the Advanced LIGO and Virgo observatories.

Constraining the nuclear equation of state with GW170817

2 code implementations23 Apr 2018 Soumi De, Daniel Finstad, James M. Lattimer, Duncan A. Brown, Edo Berger, Christopher M. Biwer

We find that the tidal deformability and 90$\%$ credible interval is $\tilde{\Lambda}=310^{+679}_{-234}$ for a uniform component mass prior, $\tilde{\Lambda}=354^{+691}_{-245}$ for a component mass prior informed by radio observations of Galactic double neutron stars, and $\tilde{\Lambda}=334^{+669}_{-241}$ for a component mass prior informed by radio pulsars.

Measuring the viewing angle of GW170817 with electromagnetic and gravitational waves

1 code implementation11 Apr 2018 Daniel Finstad, Soumi De, Duncan A. Brown, Edo Berger, Christopher M. Biwer

The joint detection of gravitational waves (GWs) and electromagnetic (EM) radiation from the binary neutron star merger GW170817 ushered in a new era of multi-messenger astronomy.
